The Ram boys soccer team advanced to the Class 2A state soccer tournament with a 3-0 win over the Chariton Chargers in Jefferson Wednesday.
The Rams took a 12-4 record into the game while the Chargers’ record was 12-2.
Ram junior Gesser Gutierres scored all three goals for the Rams, bringing his season total to 42 goals, leading in Class 2A. Juniors Kolby Angell and Jack Hansen and senior Jose Velazco had assists.
The Rams will open state tournament play Tuesday, May 30, at 1:20 pm vs Gilbert at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines. The Rams are seeded sixth while the Tigers are seeded third with a 17-2 record. It will be the third state tournament appearance for the Rams, now in their fifth season. Heart of Iowa Activities Conference foes Nevada and Perry will also be at the state tournament.
